"We're excited about the opportunity of working with Shields MRI, " says Thom Shook, director of digital imaging at Lahey. "Shields has brought very effective, accurate MR services to health care centers across Massachusetts. They will bring an excellent level of care to our patients." A two-story addition to the Lahey Clinic Northshore facility, located near the Emergency Department, was built to house the Shields MRI Center. The facility is staffed by Lahey radiologists and by Shields MRI technologists and support staff. Together, they provide patients with seamless MRI services. "Nothing is more frustrating for a patient than to be sent to another facility to have tests done, " says Shook. "The service is going to improve patient satisfaction and care." The Shields MRI facility at Lahey Clinic features a state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla twin gradient MRI. This technology has the capability of doing cardiac MRI, making Lahey one of the few centers in Massachusetts capable of performing cardiac MRI and pravastatin. Revision to LSA-R.S. 40: 966 C ; .3 The phrase "without benefit of probation or suspension of sentence" was deleted from the penalty provision which became effective June 15, 2001. Thus, following the effective date of the amendment, an offender convicted of possession of a Schedule I narcotic drug would be eligible to receive a suspended sentence. The question to be decided by this court is whether the amended sentencing provision applies to those cases in which the commission of the offense occurred prior to the effective date of the statute, but the sentencing occurred subsequent to the effective date of the statute. Prior to the 2001 amendments a defendant sentenced for possession of heroin was not eligible for probation or suspension of sentence. LSA-R.S. 40: 966 C LSA-C.Cr.P. art. 893. The 2001 amendments made probation or suspension of sentence available. The trial court, over the objection of the State, gave the defendant the benefit of the amendments at the time of sentencing which occurred after the effective date of the amendments. This court has consistently held that the law in effect at the time of the commission of the offense is determinative of the penalty which the convicted accused must suffer. State v. Wright, 384 So.2d 399, 401 La. 1980 ; . A defendant must be sentenced according to sentencing provisions in effect at the time of the commission of the offense. State v.
